     Industrial Network Communication

      Industrial network refers to a fully digital, two-way, multi-station communication system in the industrial production environment, in which the industrial edge computing gateway plays an important role.

     Industrial network communication is divided into three types:

(1) Dedicated and closed industrial network: The network specification is developed by each company, and it is often designed for a specific application field, and the efficiency is also the highest. However, when they are connected to each other, the indicators are uneven, and it is difficult to coordinate promotion and maintenance.

There are three development directions for dedicated industrial networks:

①Towards a closed system to ensure market share.

②Towards an open type, making it a standard.

③ Design a dedicated Gateway to connect to an open network.

(2) Open industrial network: Except for some relatively simple standards that are unconditionally open, most of them are conditionally open, or only open to members. The manufacturer must become a member of the organization, and the product must be tested and certified by the organization before it can be used in the industrial network system.

(3) Standard industrial network: Industrial networks that comply with international standards IEC61158, IEC62026, ISO11519 or European standard EN50170, and they all follow the ISO/OSI7-layer reference model. Most industrial networks use only the physical layer, data link layer and application layer. The general industrial network is formulated based on the existing communication interface, or the communication IC is designed by oneself, and then the data transmission format is set according to the application field. For example, the physical layer and data link layer of DeviceNet are based on CANbus, and then add the application layer specification suitable for general I/O point applications.

      Currently, the eight industrial fieldbus standards approved by IEC61158 are: Fieldbus Type1, Profibus, ControlNet, P-NET, Foundation Fieldbus, SwiftNet, WorldFIP and Interbus.

      The emergence of network technology has the following advantages for industrial control:

(1) Easy installation and wiring;

(2) Modularization;

(3) Easy to diagnose;

(4) Self-construction;

(5) Enterprise management.
